Mini-Startups @ LaunchX

LaunchX brings together top aspiring high school entrepreneurs from around the world each summer, supporting you through the process of launching an actual startup.

In the previous summer, I participated in the LaunchX virtual summer program. Here’re my thoughts on LaunchX per a LinkedIn message I wrote:

Within my cohort, they randomized teams (of 3-5) based on common ideas and varied skillsets. To be honest, we didn’t have much team-bonding (except for some Minecraft), and they jumped straight into the curriculum.

The main problem that most teams run into is ideation. My team pivoted concepts 3 different times, and we started developing our product with only 3 weeks left in the program. My advice is to work ahead within the first week, and ensure that you have a good concept/product/idea.

There’s also a shortage of good devs in the program (70% of people are purely business-oriented), so I’d advise finding an outside friend/coder to help you out, if you do choose to build an app. Otherwise, I think the program is generally worth it, though I know there’s a lot of people on reddit that say otherwise. Oh, and make sure that you attend all the electives and socials too.
